Research Laboratories

The research laboratories are divided into three sub-units: Laboratory of Cathodoluminescence Microscopy, Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy and Micro-CT Laboratory. Dedicated staff are available to assist in all areas of analysis and sample preparation, together with appropriate software, computing resources and transfer solutions

Catodoluminescence Microscopy

Cathodoluminescence microscopy enables analysis of light emitted by a luminescent material when excited by an electron source. Cathodoluminescence can reveal impurities of trace elements and hidden or cryptic textures in minerals that normally are not detected under optical microscopy.

Laboratory of Scanning Electron Microscopy

By using a non-invasive electron beam, SEM creates images of both high resolution and high magnification at the same time. These analyses provide detailed information about morphology, microstructure or elemental composition of samples.

micro-CT Laboratory

Micro-CT is a non-destructive technique that uses X-rays to create 3D models of the internal and external features of samples.
